Sandra Klein’s self-portraits show very little of her physical appearance beyond a nearly transparent silhouette, but she shows, in full color and character, the details of her inner life, her thoughts, dreams, and the whirl of activity in her ‘noisy brain.’ With deftest use of digital tools, she cuts her head in half, top to bottom, and shows both the biological details revealed by the operation and the symbolic contents of her memory and imagination. Her work considers gender, aging, creativity, heredity, and all the other personal and social impacts on her development as an individual and on the development of the “universal mind” as well.

“…people talk about death in a different way than they do about anything else; and the only reason for that is, nobody who dies tells us anything about what happened to them afterward.” - Rainer Maria Rilke, “The Song of Justice”, Stories of God. When I was seven years old, my mother died. Mama, Are You Proud of Me? is my journey of reconciliation with the questions which haunt me after her death. The psychological trauma I initially faced became compounded when I learned later that she died due to medical malpractice. With my known reality shattered, these inquiries became even more prominent in the minutiae of daily life as I began to process her death again.

The images in this publication were all shot by Jesse Greene. They come from past creative projects, and test shoots done in the studio and various locations around the world. Some images were shot for art projects, like this one. Others shoots featured were for art galleries and online features. These archival magazines are for fashion magazine, photography and art collectors. Although some issues may contain nudity, the featured content is not considered “adult imagery” in the eyes of the curator and creator Jesse Greene, and can be considered “all ages” in the proper setting. All nude models, in this publication, are over 18.
