Dek Unu Magazine - Walter Ungerer
The career of American media artist, Walter Ungerer, began when he entered the graphic arts program at Pratt Institute in 1954. He finished his MFA at Columbia in 1960 and was associated with the underground film movement in New York City through the socially and intellectually turbulent Sixties. Now in the seventh decade of is practice, he has built a body of imaginative, thought-provoking work by relying on intuition, playful ex- perimentation, scholarship, and diligence. Like all other experimental film, Ungerer’s works depart, sometimes widely, from familiar narrative movie grammar; “stories” are told indirectly, in abstract mixtures of photography, sound (both planned and found), choreography, and always-malleable time.

Bridge Burns turns up the heat in a set by Dennis Lay. Aldrian Alfonso brings us Perla Cordero in an Asian inspired look. John Goyer presents Amanda Perry, as only John can do. Canadian photographer Bill Martin, Jr. sends us some incredible shots of Stephanie Millar. Dom Castillo shows us that this lady is nobody to be trifled with, in a set shot by David Moreno. Dallas Morgan submitted a photo set featuring newcomer, Kristy Gronseth. Last, but definitely not least is Mike Prince, photographed by Annalee Davey. Portraiture Magazine Issue no. 1 When I founded Portraiture Magazine, I had one goal: to lift others up. You see, the catalyst for creating this magazine was the COVID-19 crisis. As I’m writing this, many businesses have shut down, halted production, or closed their doors. Photographers like myself have had to put their businesses on pause which leads to a lot of uncertainty for the future. This time of instability can lead to mental and emotional distress which becomes a downward spiral that’s hard to break out of. I, myself, started spiraling and found it hard to be hopeful about the future. Because of this, I wanted to create something that would give light and hope to other photographers who are struggling at this time. Photographers deserve to have their work recognized and seen. My goal with Portraiture Magazine is to showcase the multitude of talented photographers out there and give them the recognition they deserve for the artwork they create.
