NOLA ‘Nacular presents The Society to Preserve the Art of Lester Carey: The Poboy Committee
This book documents a portion of the vanishing culture of the art and profession of vernacular hand-painted signage in the commercial settings of the post-Katrina landscape within the African-American neighborhoods of New Orleans. See corner stores of New Orleans through the brush strokes of local sign painter Lester Carey and the camera lens of Anthony DelRosario. Take a tour of many places where you could pick up a poboy and cold beer, wine or liquor. Most of these signs are gone. Many of the buildings are gone as well.
